The Dolce & Gabbana which is an Italian fashion house has entered into the global market and has proved to be very competitive. The reason why this study addresses the strategies used by this company is because it is a middle company that is growing at very high rate hence becoming a threat to its rivals. For instance, in the year 2005 the company’s turnover was €750 million. This study will address the marketing and competitive strategies of this company by looking at its SWOT analysis, Porter’s five forces analysis, key success factors, driving forces, international marketing, customers of the company’s products, analysis of rivals, and the company’s strategic management. In addition to this, this study will address global competition of this company by looking at its marketing and competitive strategies that have resulted to increased competition in the global market. In this essence this study will concentrate on how competition of the Dolce & Gabbana Company especially its sport wares have taken a market share in the global market. Further, this study aims at looking how this company has introduced new products in the market and how it has thus secured a new market for its products. All these aspects will be adequately discussed in this study and hence a conclusion will be made from the discussion.
Dolce & Gabbana sport wear market
Most of the people who are interested in sport wear are the youths and mostly those who practice in different physical practices. In this case, sport companies like European Football companies and individuals who are interested in sports are mostly the potential buyers of the company’s products. A good example here is the year 2010 when the players at London’s Chelsea Football Club changed their sport wears and bought clothes that are being manufactured and marketed by the Dolce & Gabbana Company. Referring to the example of Chelsea, the Dolce & Gabbana Company has signed a three year contract where it is supposed to design the players’ clothes and also re-design the directors’ lounge at the club’s home in West London.
The demographics of the customers who buy the company’s products may be not specifically known but looking at the sport clubs located in Europe and more specifically in the United Kingdom one can say that a lot of people usually buy products from this company. Most youths in any society are interested in sports and hence would be interested in buying well designed sport gears. This therefore increases and diversifies the number of customers buying the company’s sport wear. It should be noted that the strategic business of this company is designing as in addition to sport wear there are other dresses that sold by the company. In the recent past, the Dolce & Gabbana Company has been heavily criticized in the United Kingdom and Italy especially in its modes of advertisements. In this case, the pictures or images that were used in advertising women and men’s clothes were said to lower the dignity of women. This hence clearly indicates that the main business field of this company is designing which is therefore incorporated into sport wear to make them more attractive. Basically, many sport clubs in the whole of Europe and the United States of America where the company has its branches have been attracted by the perfect designs of the playing gears the company sells. Since there are a large number of people in the numerous sports club world wide, the company through its high quality designs has been able to compete stiffly with its rivals.
It is of great importance to note that the Dolce & Gabbana Company has a global market especially in matters relating to its sport wear. In this respect, the company is in a position to sell its products in all parts of the world as sport clubs are not only found in Europe but also in the whole world. At its initial stages, the Dolce & Gabbana Company used to sell its clothes’ designs to local and regional markets but currently, the market has expanded to incorporate the global sphere. This aspect has been accompanied by a number of successes and increased profitability. In this respect, the company’s sport wear have been narrowed down to sport clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Millan, and Juventus among others. This shows that the company has a wide market where it can sell its sport wears.
The market of this company is usually specialized to target customers who are attracted by fashions and well designed sport wears. This has been one of the competitive advantages of the Dolce & Gabbana Company as it has been able to get hold of a wide range of middle class people. A point worth noting is that fashion has been an aspect that is widely admired by many people hence giving the company a credit for its products. In the market and sale of sport wear, this company has been able to specialize largely on fashions and design hence winning a large market share in the areas where it sells its products. Additionally, the Dolce & Gabbana sport wear has been not doing well in terms of market share as it has all along faced stiff competition from the rivals like Adidas.
